Education: New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University
Dr. Bob Orcutt received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University, with Distinction. He received both the Cornell University and The Pfizer Awards for Large Animal Medicine, as well as the Jane Miller Award for physiology, and was inducted into both Phi Zeta, the Veterinary honor society, and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Brown University, Magna cum Laude. Dr. Orcutt was nominated there as a Woodrow Wilson Scholar and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi.
Dr. Orcutt grew up in Rowley, MA, and attended Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield for four years where he graduated cum Laude. Prior to Veterinary school, he was very active in training, riding, and showing Morgans under saddle and in harness.
After working for four years in the Department of Large Animal Medicine, Obstetrics and Surgery at the New York State Veterinary College, and for three years as a Staff Veterinarian for Drs. Milkey and Davis in Granby, CT, he returned to Massachusetts in 1974. Dr. Orcutt established his large animal practice in Topsfield, MA. He later asked his father and sister to join him in Topsfield and formed Combined Veterinary Services in 1987. In 1991, he and Dr. Noble purchased property in Ipswich where the small animal hospital and large animal outpatient clinic is currently located, and is operating today as SRH Veterinary Services.
He served as Chairman, Large Animal Continuing Education Committee for the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association. He is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He attends many local and national continuing education meetings so vital to providing the current and cutting edge diagnostic modalities and therapies to his patients. While he finds great pleasure in incorporating the exciting new technologies developing in traditional medicine, he also provides his patients with the benefits of his Veterinary Chiropractic training from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Orcutt works closely with many other horse care professionals to deliver the best of care to his patients. Dr. Orcutt has particularly enjoyed providing official veterinary supervision and care at all of the Combined Training competitions held in the Hamilton-Wenham area for the past thirty-two years. Dr. Orcutt is licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in the State of New Hampshire. Dr. Orcutt is involved in all facets of the equine large animal practice. His main focus is on equine lameness and performance, and internal medicine.
He and his wife, Ann, have two fabulous adult children. Their son, Mr. Joel Orcutt, and his wife, Nicole, have three marvelous daughters, and their daughter, Dr. Elayna Orcutt Rubens, is a neurologist and resides with her husband, Robert, and their three sons. Bob and Ann’s miniature dachshunds happily allow them to share their home in Topsfield, and are a source of love, comfort, and hilarious moments. Dr. Bob is a life-long avid Red Sox fan who has lived and died with the team, from The Splendid Splinter to Yaz to Big Papi.
