
Porcine (pet) Annual Vaccination Recommendations
Based on the recommendations from the following resources:
Boldrick, L: Veterinary Care of Pot-Bellied Pet Pigs, 1993
Muirhead, M: Managing Pig Health, 2013
Mature animals:
- Rabies
- Tetanus
- Erysipelas
- Bordetella, Pasteurella Multocida
Piglets:
- Tetanus: 2 months and booster in 3 weeks
- Erysipelas: Single dose at 2 months, booster in 3 weeks
- Bordetella, Pasteurella Multocida: Single dose at 2 months, booster in 3 weeks
- Rabies: 3 months
Breeding sow:
- Rabies: Annually, prior to breeding
- Tetanus: Annually
- Leptospirosis: Twice yearly in breeding animals
- Porcine Parvovirus: One month prior to breeding
Risk Based:
- E. coli: Vaccination of sow prior to farrowing, consider oral vaccination of piglets at birth
Breeding Boars:
Rabies: Annually
Tetanus:Annually
Porcine Parvovirus: Annually
Leptospirosis: Twice yearly in breeding animals
Risk based vaccines:
- Atrophic Rhinitis
- Porcine Parvovirus- all breeding swine
- Leptospirosis: Breeding animals and those in endemic areas
- Pseudorabies: All pigs moved interstate are tested for the disease, if they test positive they cannot be moved from quarantine unless they are euthanized or slaughtered. Some states do not allow vaccination because they can be confused with a positive test result.
Porcine Annual Deworming Recommendations
Perform twice yearly fecal egg counts and deworm as instructed
