Founded by Mary Martin in 2010, New England Equine Rescue North (West Newbury) has been helping horses and owners in crisis, primarily in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Dr. Derek Cavatorta joined the board of directors in 2014 and has been an integral part of the NEER team since then. NEER North is nonprofit organization and remains dedicated to rescuing horses who are abused, neglected, or at-risk of slaughter. NEER North is a safe haven where these animals are rehabilitated with the intention of adoption into new families. NEER North also networks closely with other reputable equine rescue organizations, assisting where needed. In addition to finding homes for horses and donkeys, NEER has a feed assistance program and a consignment tack shop. They also educate the public about responsible pet ownership and provide assistance networks to help horse owners in need. This wonderful organization can always use volunteers, donations, foster parents, barn items, and tack. See their website (www.neernorth.org) or talk to Dr. Derek to find out ways you can help out!
